The best part about pairing your favorite sweet wine with a sugary course is that it doesn’t have to be complicated. A good rule of thumb? Pick a wine sweeter than the dessert. Why it works:
The baked, buttery flavors of this classic fall dessert are balanced by the Frank Family Late Harvest Chardonnay’s vibrant acid. The decadence of juicy apple, candied orange rind, and decadent stone fruit flavors in this wine complement the main component in this dish along with the caramelized sweetness of the baked buttery crisp.
- 3-4 pink lady apples (peeled, cored, sliced)
- 2 sticks cold butter
- ½ cup white sugar
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 1 cup flour
Preheat oven to 350F.
Place apple slices down flat in an 8-inch baking dish.
Put flour and sugar in a bowl.
Use two forks or a pastry cutter to cut in the cold butter and mix the 3 together with your hands until evenly mixed (this should look like large crumbs).
Pour crumb mixture over the apples using your hand or a fork to even it all out.
If you want, put a 1 tbsp of rolled oats combined with 1 tbsp brown sugar on top.
Place in the oven and bake for 40 minutes or until the top is golden-brown.
