Frank Family Vineyards is proud to welcome Winery Lake Vineyard to our estate portfolio\u2014a historic 256-acre site in the heart of Carneros. Originally planted by the DiRosa family in the 1960s, Winery Lake was long recognized as a cornerstone of the region, coveted by the \u201cwho\u2019s who\u201d of Carneros winemakers in the 1980s. After several years of lying fallow, this storied vineyard has now come to Frank Family, ready to write a new chapter in its legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under our ownership, 80 acres of vines have been planted, with a focus on Chardonnay, alongside carefully selected blocks of Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot. The Cabernet block thrives in the vineyard\u2019s cool-climate conditions, bringing bright structure and depth, while each varietal benefits from the site\u2019s gently rolling hills, varied row orientations, and a mosaic of clay, loam, and rocky soils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This clonal and soil diversity contributes to natural acidity, complexity, and balance, making Winery Lake Vineyard especially well-suited for Chardonnay. Almost a quarter of the fruit in Frank Family’s Carneros Chardonnay<\/a> now comes from Winery Lake, lending an extra layer of richness and structure to our estate wines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our approach to farming this historic site is rooted in long-term stewardship. We prioritize soil health and biodiversity to ensure the vineyard thrives for generations to come. During the winter and early spring months, sheep graze between the vine rows, naturally managing cover crops and enriching the soil. Their presence reduces the need for mechanical mowing and additional tractor passes, supporting a healthier ecosystem while minimizing our environmental footprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
