Frank Family’s flagship Winston Hill wine is deep purple in the glass. The nose bursts with notes of dark fruit and cocoa, and the palate is gorgeously balanced. The wine has an amazing amount of finesse amidst its ripe fruit and soft tannins and tastes like velvet with a never-ending finish.

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Winston Hill, which comes from a 25-acre parcel on their larger estate was named after their English Springer Spaniel who is pictured on the label. The wine was aged 21 months in 75% new French oak, and is a blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The color is a deep ruby purple, and the wine reveals beautiful pure creme de cassis, black raspberry fruit, and a full-bodied mouthfeel. It has wonderful elegance combined with intensity, power and authority. This is a beauty, and a world-class Cabernet Sauvignon to drink over the next 25-30 years.
Like a piece of classical music played by a string quartet, where each grape represents a different instrument in the ensemble, each part of Winston Hill's blend has a unique sound, or flavor profile. Winston Hill is comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
Cabernet is the first violin, playing the melody, representing the dominant flavor of the wine, currant and a hint of black pepper, influenced by warm barrel spices. Just like the first violin plays the major theme of the music, Cabernet's flavor is the major component of the Winston Hill Bordeaux blend.
Merlot is the second violin, supporting the "sound" of Cabernet, complementing its rich flavor with a slightly lighter, brighter presence. Merlot brings hints of black cherry and blackberry, along with softer tannins.
Cabernet Franc is the viola, playing its part in harmony to the melody of Cabernet and Merlot. Where those grapes bring rich fruit and spice, Cabernet Franc plays a more floral and herbaceous part, giving Winston Hill depth and complexity.
Lastly, Petit Verdot is the Cello. Dark and full-bodied, the cello lays the foundation that allows the violin parts to soar. Adding structural acidity, tannins, and depth of color, Petit Verdot is felt more than tasted.
